Photos & Photos

Over the last year we have taken a bunch of photos of customers coming into Schnack. We have posted some of them on the website, but updating the site was difficult. We have some new software on our site (PHP based) and so we will be revisiting our whole photo section and hopefully uploading all the older pictures and start taking new ones again as well.

Red Mills? or Rode Haak?

I'll still stand by the older residents of the area calling much of we now call Carroll Gardens, Red Hook... But according to this Village Voice article, which has some nice things to say about Schnack, the area we are in was called Red Mills by the Dutch. Any one know how that would translate?

According to Babel Fish Translation it would be called, Rode Molens! Red Hook would be Rode Haak.

Corn and Fun

It's fun being back at the GYC. On Monday we started doing some Mexican style street corn with Mayo, Cheese and spices. At GYC it sold out in a few hours. At Schnack we are still running it!

INFO:
WHO ARE THE DEEDLE DEEDLE DEES?
The Deedle Deedle Dees are a rock band for kids (and smart adults). Based in Brooklyn, the Deedle Deedle Dees like to sing about a lot of silly topics, but they especially enjoy teaching kids about revolutionaries, criminals, and troubled souls in American history. Songs like "Aaron Burr," "John Brown," "Anne Bonney," and "John Wilkes Booth" are all regular parts of their sets as are lighter fare like "Free as a Turd," "Scared by my Own Costume," and "Flat Stanley" (a retelling of Jeff Brown's 1964 children's book)."

The Hitman

For those waiting to find out the results of the Schnack team vs. The Hitman you'll have to wait til the end of the regular season. That game was not played due to weather. Remember, 150 cheese singles have been bet against 2 tubs of Uncle Louie G's Ice Cream.

Beer Milkshake

As much as we would like to take credit for inventing the Beer Milkshake, the first reference we have found is in Steinbeck's Cannery Row.

"Henri watches a pole skater hired by Holman's Department Store. Doc heads for La Jolla. Eats a hamburger at Herman's, then more at Gonzales, King City, Paso Robles, Santa Maria and Santa Barbara where he picks up a hitchhiker whom he throws out at Ventura where he has a beer milkshake."

Video Please

Schnack has really been in the media lately. A few weeks ago it was the burger eating down at the Red Hook Marine Terminal. This coming week we have ABC/Time Out and Discovery coming into Schnack to "film." Of course these days that means video.

Discovery is getting footage for a promo they will be using during the memorial day weekend. They will be shooting from 7am to 11:30am and our opening will be delayed this coming Monday (May 17th) until 12:15pm.

ABC/Time Out is filming coverage of our special offerings for kids including our coloring sheets and (we hope) local illustrator Eric Shawn Cherry. They will be filming Wednesday (May 19th) at 12:30 and we INVITE ALL parents with kids to come in and be on camera. Free fries and drinks! Please arrive promptly at noon.

They will be cut into nice bite sized pieces and will go perfectly with all the smoky and other wise wonderful whiskeys LeNells will be tasting.
